Om Shanti Om is new hindi film starring Shahrukh Khan and newcomer Deepika Padukone in the lead role while Shreyas Talpade and Arjun Rampal supports them.This is the second movie directed by Farah Khan.Released on 9 November 2007 all over India on the festive and auspicious day diwali, the film has made money from box office collecting 40 crores rupees in the first week.The total collection including the overseas collection is 112 crores in the first week.These numbers would point us to the fact that this movie will be a super hit.
The story takes place in the 1970s is about a young man Om Prakash Makhija played by Shahrukh Khan.He is a junior actor.But his dream is to be a film star in cinema and to marry the famous actress Shantipriya played by Deepika Padukone.Om Prakash is supported by his mother Bela Makhija (played by Kiron Kher).Om is shown as teling his mother that he has made up his mind to be an actor in the silverscreen and is not going to waste his life as a junior actor like his father and mother.He is supported in this initiative by his friend Pappu (played by Shreyas Talpade).Om is shown as a person living in a dreamy state.He is depicted talking to the big movie poster board at the street.
The movie shows the bollywood of seventies in a comic and humorous way.In the premiere of a film acted by Shantipriya called 'Dreamy Girl', Om gets to meet her in his personal zone.The romantic music "Ankhom me theri" is played at that time.Now Pappu gets a ticket of actor Manoj Kumar (a bollywood actor) and they get to watch the movie .When Original Manoj kumar comes the security doesn't recognise him and after a while Om and Pappu gets thrown away.In reality there exist an actor Manoj kumar who is not happy by the way the movie had depicted him and the way the used his name.Both of them gets drunk and acts an award ceremony at the street with children as audience.
Arjun Rampal the villian is a film producer Mukesh Mehra of 70s.Om works at his set as junior actor .Om saves Shanti from a fire that errupts at the set.So Om and Shanti become friends.Later Om gets to Shanti's room and find Mukesh and Shanti arguing.He finds that Shanti is pregnant and she is forcing Mukesh to get married.Mukesh on the other hand says that both their careers will get destroyed if they marry.Om is desperate and full of pain.One of his dream has shattered.
Another day he finds Mukesh and Shanti going to a lonely set,he folows them.There he find Mukesh trying to blow Shanti up.Om tries to save her from fire but the security guards of Mukesh thrash him and when he enters the set to rescue Shanti, everything gets blown and he is shown to be thrown away to some distance away to a road where he gets hit by a car driven by Actor Rajesh Kapoor.Rajesh gets Om to the Hospital as he was taking his wife for delivery in the car.Om dies and at the same time Rajesh's son is born.Om is shown to have incarnated as Rajesh Kapoor's son.Suddenly the movie shifts from 1977 to 2007 and Om Kapoor the kid grows up as a person phobic with fire.His father gets him to the industry through the back door and makes him a star without much difficulty.He gets a life that the man in the 70s had dreamed of.Then an award function is shown with lots of super stars and actresses.When Om Kapoor gets the award , he tells to the audience the same words Om Prakash had said to the kids when he performed a mock award presentation in the street after getting drunk.
Later it is shown Om Kapoor gets full memory when he visit the set where Om Prakash and Shanti died.He gets to meet Mukesh who is now a producer in Hollywood and is called 'Mike' now.He convinces Mike to make 'Om Shanti Om' , the film abandoned after the fire mishap.He finds a model Sandy who is a look alike of Shanti .Along with Pappu master and his old mother he is planning to make a drama to make Mukesh confess about the killing.But Mukesh finds it out and in the fight Shanti kills him.Now it is known that at the last scene that Sandy was not there at the time of killing and that the ghost of Santipriya did that.With that OSO is finished.
It is an entertaining movie engineered to get good commercial success.It has it's own flaws and incidents of foolishness and unreality in the movie.Getting 30 top stars in a song sequence is particularly to pull crowds.Kerala Box is going to rate Om Shanti Om a score of 7.0 out of 10.0 points.
