Bhargavacharitam is a 2008 movie of the genius Sreenivasan.Mammooty to survive the top spot in the malayalam film industry has already taken a comedy route via Rajamanckam.This is just an extension of that.Here he plays a don who gets nervous and lose self confidence when he takes arms to kill people.
Sreenivasan is Dr. Santharam MBBS, DPM (London), DNB (PSYCH), BPM (California), MRCpysch (.He has returned to his native place (Kerala) after completing highly valuable research in California.He is a world famous psychatrist who is egoistic about his fame and showcases his photo with George Bush.He runs a mind clinic and lives with his sister Radhika(Shamna).Radhika (an MSW degree holder) is betrothed to Vinod (Rahman) who works in the anti narcotic cell of the police department.
Santharam loves Vinod's sister Anupama (Nikita) who studies at Bangalore.Eventhough he is in his forties and Anu in her twenties, he makes phone calls to Anu because of his love for her.One fine morning, Vinod approaches Santharam at his clinic for treating the wife of his collegue narcotic cell SI Joseph Mathew.The lady lost her mental balance after her husband got missing on job.
Sofia (Padmapriya), the daughter of the SI Joseph Mathew accompanies her mother to Santharam's office for treatment.She is a BEd degree holder surviving on taking tuitions to children in her village.She was planning to buy a job in an aided management school by bribing the management using the retirement money of Joseph Mathew.
However Shantaram does not treat them because somebody tresspasses to his office.It was 'current bhargavan' (mamooty) and his goons.Current Bhargavan is a notorious criminal doing marijuana cultivation and poaching in the forest.He threatens Santharam for a treatment.Bhargavan is sufferring from nervousness in his extreme job which makes him difficult to survive in the underworld.He fails to fire a gun or in fight with his enemies.
Ramanathan is shown as an honest senior officer of Vinod who was on leave tired fighting with illegal weed cultivators.He was the SP of the department.Santaram flies to bangalore to meet Anu where Bhargavan also reaches and presses for treatment.During their journey back home, they are chased in car and shot by Marriappan (Adityan), another underworld poacher.Tensed bhargavan does not fire in retaliation but luckily they gets saved.
Anupama gets placed in an english news magazine in Kerala.She interviews Sofia and makes a news story on Current Bhargavan.She pinpoints suspicion over the abduction of SI Joseph Mathew towards Current Bhargavan.She uses Santharam for snaps of Current Bhargavan.Bhargavan poses for photoshoots thinking that it would be a part of the treatment.
At the engagement of Vinod and Radhika, Bhargavan barges in after reading Anu's article and his photo published in the magazine. Ramanathan was also present in the ceremony.Bhargavan make a mess out of the engagement and collides headson with Vinod. Santaram in a bid to save face hypnotize Bhargavan and tread bhargavan to his car and they drive away from there.
Bhargavan informs Santharam to treat him urgently as Mariappan and his men has hijacked his marijuana worth 20 crores in the forest.He insists Santaram to follow him for his fight for the drugs in the forest.In the fight, Bhargavan fails to retrieve the drugs in the fierce battle that took place in the forest.But he gets Mariappan at gunpoint with hands raised.Bhargavan wastes the golden opportunity by not firing and Mariappan who escapes with the weed.Bhargavan is insulted over phone by his boss and is asked to return to forest and recreate weeds worth Rs 20 crore before meeting in person.It is revealed on screen that Ramanathan was the boss and that he was wolf in lamb's costumes with his clean image of an uncorrupt narcotic control department chief.
Bhargavan meets Ramanathan in Ooty.He is asked to return to the woods and to pressurize him , Ramanathan presses for his arrest for SI Joseph Mathew missing case.He hopes that Bhargavan will return to woods since police will look out for him in the state.Depressed bhargavan tresspasses to Ramanathan's house and stays there threatning his family.He asks Santaram to contact Anupama to get the news story buried in the magazine.Anupama doesn't agree to that despite Santharam's persistent request.
Ramanathan visit Santharam and enquires about his links with Bhargavan.Santharam lies to him that he is treating Bhargavan to get him out of the underworld.Before Bhargavan tells Santaram about the true colours of Ramanathan, Ali (Salim Kumar) the assistant of Dr Santharam reaches there for enquiring about his absense at the clinic.Horrified Ali runs after seeing the don bhargavan.Santharam chases him to the street from where he is kidnapped.
After two days, Santharam's mother (KPAC Lalitha) and Radhika runs to Vinod and asks for help.Santharam's house gets surrounded by police but Bhargavan escapes some how and reach Ramanathan's house from where he aks for refuge.He is rejected and asked to leave to the woods immediately.
Santharam escapes from Ramanathan's goons and calls Ali for help.Ali gets Santharam to Dindigul where Santharam would be living under cover hiding from Ramanathan's men.Trapeez Velayudhan (Jagadeesh) is the friend of Ali and he agrees to give some job to Santharam at the circus tent.The genius doctor is made to wash clothes and clean bathrooms in the circus camp.He is also pressurized by Trapeez Velayudhan to do 'The Great Peeranki Item'.He is asked to enter a cannon and he is fired in the air and made to fall on the circus safety net after somersaulting.
Bhargavan is also in a bad shape living in dirty locations.Bhargavan and Ali reaches Jumbo circus and meets Santaram.Seeing the bad state of Santharam, Bhargavan request him to return to Kerala.He says that once he goes to the woods, ramanathan won't harm Santharam.
Santharam now tells Bhargavan that he knows his disease.
He was seeking rescue from the effects of misdeeds that he have done in the past.
A thrist for a life to do goodness.
That is why when he takes his arms to harm a person, he feels short of self confidence and have shaky hands.His disease is the battle happening between good and the bad in his mind.The solution:
Bhargavan should decide that he needs a good life.Then a good and confident bhargavan will be reborned.Bhargavan should get out of the awkward situation he is in.
Now he gets in to confrontation with Ramanathan.Bhargavan and Santharam visits Narcotic bureau to depose before the chief and they see Ramanathan sitting there.He took charge cancelling the leave.Santharam visits Vinod's house to tell him about Ramanathan.Before he can tell the truth, he is arrested by Ramanathan and the police for his links with Bhargavan.
Current Bhargavan meets Sofia and tells his innocence and informs her that her father is killed.Bhargavan calls for his men and tells them about his plan to live a normal life.They all decide to go to the woods for one more time to burn the weeds they planted.
In the forest, he is stopped by Vinod, Ramanathan and his force.Bhargavan burns the farm and Ramanathan fights with bhargavan.And Vinod knows about Ramanathan's illegal links and he gets arrested and Santharam flies abroad for a higher studies.Before he make the move, Bhargavan and his aides dressed like gentemen reaches the doctor and asks his help to make them less peaceful and hearing that Santaram runs.
This adaptation of 'Analyze This' has worked well in malayalam.Mammooty was good with his role as the Don.Sreenivasan tried hard to make us laugh.Sixty percent of his attempts worked.Padmapriya with the same boring role proves that malayalam movies are male centric.It is a good entertaining movie for the family audience and the DVDs are out.
