Kangaroo is a 'Prithvi Raj' starrer malayalam movie that was released in December 2007.Prithvi Raj was boasting in his media interviews and promos that this was the movie where he had tried his hands on to do quality comedy scenes.As a viewer, i feel that this is the movie which revealed that doing natural comedy scene is still an uphill task for the young man.But still the lad has done well to portray the life of a typical knanaya kunjiraman.This movie is directed by Raj Babu.
The movie is themed around marriages and cultures in Knanaya Christians in Kerala.Their traditions and culture is portrayed well in this movie.The knanaya sect is smaller in number and they make it sure that marriages happen only within the sect.Prithviraj (Josootty) plays the role of a educated christian youth working as an auto driver.His MCom didn't fetch him a job and since he is the sole bread winner of the family consisting his mother,elder brother and sisters, he took up the job of an auto rickshaw driver and names his auto "Punyalachan".Salim kumar plays the role of his brother in law, a shrewd witty fellow who looks upon Josootty as a unit where he can pump money frequently.Josooty seems to have borrowed some money from Salim Kumar and he seems to annoy throughout the film for that money.Jagathy Sreekumar plays the role of a drunkard demented elder brother of Josooty.He is shown disturbing the marriage of their sister, which Josootty has difficulty arranged.When Jagathy gets mad, he believes he is a police officer and then he would steal the uniform and gun of a police officer, his neighbor and friend.At the wedding he shoots a man (Suraj Venjarumood).Josooty is fighting in his facing problems of a middle class family, like marriage of his sister, dowry problems of a married sister and treatment and care of mentally disturbed elder brother.

At this time, a broker and panchayat member (Harisree Asokan) asks Josooty to marry a knanaya girl from a well known family and get the dowry and use it for his use.He also say that the girl has a child from some illegitimate relation of the girl.He gets to see the girl and decides to sacrifice his life.Out of confusion he identifies kavya madhavan who was his dream girl as the bride.But actually the bride was her elder sister and she was just accompanying her and holding the child.Jayasurya Plays the role of Monachan who was a manager and servant of Kavya's family.Prithvi Raj happily make up his mind to father the child and agree to marry the girl.Jagathy Sreekumar disagrees with the marriage proposal and stated he would allow only if he know who fathered the child.Asokan tells him a lie that Josooty itself is the father of that girl.Lalu Alex the brother of both the girls summons Asokan and asks whether Josooty is the father of the child.The girl was not ready to reveal the name to her family.Asokan lies there too.Prithvi Raj knows just before the day of the engagement ceremony that the girl he was going to marry was not kavya but her elder sister.Asokan promises to stop the marriage and asks Josooty to take part in the engagement.The girl suicides that night and after the funeral Salim Kumar pitches for the child of the girl claiming his family's stand as Josooty is the father of the child.Salim was eyeing the money of Lalu Alex and he is shown asking money regularly at later scenes.
So bachelor Josooty gets to raise a kid which does not belong to him.To go for job, he wrap the child at his shoulder and hence the name of the movie - KANGAROO.Prithvi reveals the truths to kavya and kavya says she knew that the child belonged to the class mate of her sister.Her Sister (Kaveri) was in love doing her medical studies at bangalore and thus got pregnant.She also says that he got killed in a road accident in bangalore.Kavya and Josooty gets entangled with love.When Lalu Alex gets to know about this , he views Josooty as a man who is on a lookout to seduce his sisters.Jayasurya plays the role of a rough christian young man.He is a serious man and is the villian in the movie.The movie is all about how josotty clears his name (by fathering a child before marriage) and girl (Kavya).
Altogether it is a good movie to watch.The Kerala Box Rating for this movie is 5.0 out of 10.0.
